About the Founder – PJ Landers
NYC Comedian, Actor & Owner of Comedy Village
PJ Landers is a seasoned New York comedian, actor, writer, and the owner of Comedy Village, one of the most dynamic comedy clubs in NYC. With over 30 years of experience in the comedy and entertainment industry, PJ has built a career rooted in authenticity, resilience, and a deep love for the stage.
Born and raised in Woodside/Sunnyside, Queens NYC, PJ began performing stand-up in the early ’90s and quickly became known for his sharp wit and working-class sensibility. He trained at HB Studios, performed Off-Off Broadway, and landed TV roles in acclaimed projects such as House of Cards and Spike Lee’s She’s Gotta Have It. Behind the scenes, he’s written and produced numerous independent works that blend raw humor with human truth.
PJ also has deep roots in New York comedy history. He took over the legendary Boston Comedy Club on West 3rd Street in Greenwich Village—a proving ground for many of today’s biggest names in comedy. It was that experience, coupled with his understanding of what comics and crowds truly want, that led him to open the original Comedy Village in 2004.
In 2024, following the closure of Carolines on Broadway, PJ saw an opportunity to revive Midtown’s comedy scene. He launched the new Comedy Village at 352 West 44th Street, making it the only full-time, seven-nights-a-week comedy club in Times Square. Featured on WPIX News, the club quickly became recognized as a top-tier destination among comedy clubs NYC is known for.
A former 9/11 responder, father, and lifelong New Yorker, PJ brings unmatched dedication to his role as both performer and club owner. Under his leadership, Comedy Village remains true to its mission: a real comedy club NYC can be proud of—where comics can take risks, audiences can laugh without filter, and the legacy of New York comedy continues to thrive.
