Vickie Wang is a Taipei-born stand-up comedian, writer, interpreter, and former model, fluent in Mandarin Chinese, English, and American cultural references. She’s lived in Asia, Scandinavia, and the good ol’ American Midwest, and got her start in comedy while living in Shanghai, China, performing under the constraints of Chinese censorship, before eventually building an international touring career.

Her comedy blends sharp cross-cultural observation with storytelling, exploring identity, language, cross-strait tension between Taiwan and China, cultural stereotypes, censorship, and cats, a subject she’s discussed everywhere from NPR’s “All Things Considered” to New York City stages. She’s performed in Taipei, Shanghai, and New York City, opened for renowned international headliners such as Atsuko Okatsuka, Jenny Yang, and Elena Gabrielle, and was featured in the inaugural Asian food-and-comedy festival Belly Laughs in Los Angeles. She currently co-produces a monthly stand-up show in Times Square with veteran talent manager Jason Steinberg titled “Wang’s World Comedy,” which has been part of the prestigious New York Comedy Festival.

As a writer and editor, Vickie has worked for Gensler, LEGO, and Disney, and written an opinion piece for The New York Times, with her work also published in RADII, China Media Project, and The World of Chinese; her comedy has been highlighted by NPR, The New Yorker, and the World Journal (iykyk). As an interpreter and translator, she’s worked for Microsoft, The New York Times, The Paris Review, PEN America, and HBO Asia, among others.

She’s a cat mom of four, and wants to be just like Vir Das and Ali Wong when she grows up.
