DC Benny

D.C. Benny’s storytelling style of comedy has delighted audiences over his thirty-seven years as a New York-based performer. His nickname was given to him by Harlem’s legendary host “Uncle” Jimmy Mack, and his unusual style of telling autobiographical stories inhabited by original characters has become his trademark.

Benny’s television credits include four stand-up specials, including Comedy Central Presents, one of the network’s highest-rated half-hour specials and Dry Bar, along with season-finalist runs on both season 2 and season 8 of NBC’s Last Comic Standing. His “White Boy Rips The Apollo” clip has racked up nearly ten million views, and his third appearance on NBC’s Showtime at the Apollo has drawn over twenty million YouTube views.

On screen, Benny played Caesar in John Singleton’s Illegal Tender, appeared in Freedomland alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Julianne Moore, Love Walked In with Terence Stamp, and Where God Left His Shoes with John Leguizamo, recurred as “Chaz” on the soap opera As the World Turns, played “Bart” on Amy Schumer’s Hulu series Life & Beth, and was a cast member on ABC’s Supermarket Sweep with Leslie Jones. He’s also appeared in national commercials for Verizon, Dell, Volkswagen, Wendy’s, AIG, and Budweiser’s “How You Doin’?” Super Bowl campaign.

As a writer, Benny has written for the MTV Music Awards, various Friars Club roasts including the Roast of Patrice O’Neal, and a variety of TV pilots. His personal essays and stories have been published in New York Magazine, The New York Observer, Narratively, Heeb Magazine, and Mystery Tribune, and his comedy albums are in regular rotation on SiriusXM. He co-hosted the storytelling podcast “Tall But True” with Cash Cab’s Ben Bailey, and created and ran Urban Myth, an underground storytelling show that became a New York staple, hosting performers including Dave Chappelle, Jim Gaffigan, Bill Burr, and Kevin Hart. He currently lives on Long Island’s North Fork, where he teaches comedic storytelling via Zoom.
